Tim leaves behind his much-loved wife and soul-mate of 40 years Gabrielle (nee Miles), and his cherished children Christopher and Colin, both of Edmonton, and daughter Alison of Nanaimo. He is further survived by his ten siblings, Patrick (Rosemarie) of Salt Spring Island, BC, Margaret (Anthony) of Arnprior, Ontario, Maureen (Paul) of Ottawa, Ontario, Karen of Kingston, Ontario, Kathleen (Dan) of Renfrew, Ontario, Sheila of St. John’s, Newfoundland, Mary Brenda (Scott) of Salt Spring Island, Kevin (Agnieszka) of Arnprior, Ontario, Leni (John) of Hinton, Alberta, and John, also of Hinton, along with his wife’s sisters Jacqueline Akehurst (Alan) of Kelowna, BC, Valerie Race and Ronnie Matthews, both of Port Alberni, BC, and Georgina Boalch (Stu) of the UK, his wife’s brothers Geoffery Miles (Carol) of Toronto, Ontario and Andrew Miles (Rosemary), Steven Miles (Karen) and Michael Miles, all of the UK, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents, Gerald Patrick and Mary Lillian (nee Wickham), Tim was born and grew up in the heart of the Ottawa Valley at Renfrew, Ontario, the 7th in a line of 11 siblings. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed, depending on the seasons, softball, football, hockey, skiing, and hunting. He was especially fond of motorcycles, and explored continent-wide on them.
After finding early employment with Consumers Gas in Ontario, Tim moved to Alberta in the late 1970s where he worked in the oil & gas patch for Schlumberger, met Gay, then returned east, started a family, and obtained his gas trade certifications. The family then moved west, ultimately settling in Fort McMurray, Alberta, where Tim spent the bulk of his career working at Suncor, prior to retiring to Parksville, BC.
Tim loved the West and his family, and he in turn was very much loved as a husband, father, brother and uncle. He will be missed for his quips, his positive personality, love of conversation, and especially, his wonderfully warm hugs.
Special appreciation to Dr. Robinson and the nursing staff at the Nanaimo and District Hospital who gave graciously of their time and expertise to provide comfort and care to Tim and his family.
Memorial donations may be made in Tim’s memory to the Comox Air Force Museum in Comox, BC at www.comoxairforcemuseum.ca or the Nanaimo Hospital Foundation at www.nanaimohospitalfoundation.com.
