It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brittany Nicole Sheffield, known to some as "Nikki". She was born on August 22, 2002, and was called home on May 23, 2025, due to complications of cancer. While cancer took so much of her life in recent years, she was oh so much more than her cancer diagnosis. Brittany was a gentle but fierce, beautiful, compassionate soul. She was spunk and sass wrapped up with lipstick and a showstopper smile. Her life was a vivid tapestry of love, courage, and a tender faith in God's mercy and love. She was beloved by all who were fortunate enough to know her and will be deeply missed by everyone whose life she touched. She didn’t want a sad obituary. So here goes.
Brittany is survived by her loving mother, Tina, and her father, whom she simply adored, Robert. She is also survived by her siblings, including her sister, Ainsley; her brothers, Brandon and Dalton; her sister-in-law, Kara; and her beloved nieces, Maci and Sophia. She was predeceased by her devoted grandparents, Linda and Henry Sheffield. Also, mourning her loss is her partner and love of her life, Nickolaus Rodriguez, who stood by her side, sharing their lives and bringing comfort, joy, laughter, and deep, abiding, timeless love, in good times and bad, even when days were darkest.
Brittany graduated from Deer Park High School in Deer Park, Texas, in 2020. She was an avid swimmer and softball player and had committed to play college softball, first as a pitcher and then as a catcher, after graduation. She relished her time in the sport and worked hard to give back to the softball community by coaching youth teams and mentoring young girls in her free time. She was also a sailor and an artist. Often frustrating to her family and friends, Brittany excelled in every activity she tried, it seemed. She enjoyed lemonade, sweet tea, and finding fun dining spots with friends and family. She was deeply passionate about mental health topics and animal rights issues, often saying, "Animals are people too!" Like anyone her age, Brittany talked about her hopes and dreams for the future. She yearned to learn to surf off the California coast, and all who knew her expected she would have excelled at that, too. Brittany found peace taking long drives along scenic routes, finding spontaneous adventures wherever they came, listening to music, feeling the spray from waves at the beach, and, most of all, she loved the act of living. Although her life on earth was brief, it was rich and full. It was a beautiful, vibrant tapestry of a life lived well and full, wrapped in her faith in God and surrounded by those here on Earth that she loved and who most certainly loved her.
A visitation for Brittany will be held Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Dell Dale Avenue Baptist Church, 402 Dell Dale St, Channelview, Texas 77530. A Celebration of Life will occur 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 30, 2025 at Dell Dale St, Channelview, Texas 77530. Interment will follow in Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Fwy, Houston, Texas 77039.
We mourn the loss of Brittany, but her life was a testament to the power of her warrior’s heart…to kindness, courage, compassion, empathy, and authenticity. Her spirit will live on in everyone she touched. While we grieve her absence, we also celebrate the love, joy, and beautiful, sweet brilliance she brought into our lives. Above all, we find comfort in knowing that she is now free, embraced by our Lord—healed, whole, and dancing in Heaven, ready (first in line) for Angel duty. To all her family and friends left behind, her requests of you were simple. Choose an adventure any day of the week. Adopt a pet from the shelter or one you find in need in the rain or cold. Love one another with whole hearts. And most of all, live well, be happy and have faith. It'll all be OK.
