Mary Ana Chavez, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 67, surrounded by her devoted daughters.
Born on June 15, 1957, in Bay City, Texas, Mary was the cherished daughter of Agapito Chavez, Sr. and Ramona Puentez Chavez. A proud graduate of Tidehaven High School in 1975, she went on to earn an Associate of Science degree with a certification in Dental Assisting from Houston Community College in 1987.
Mary dedicated over three decades of her life to the dental profession, having worked tirelessly in the field after starting her career as a waitress and bartender at Crumly Cogwheels. She retired in 2021 from the field of dentistry to lovingly care for her great-granddaughter, Galyn “Gigi”.
Mary was a woman of unwavering faith, actively participating in the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Houston, where she found joy and strength in her community. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her in all her endeavors.
Mary is survived by her mother, Ramona Chavez; daughters Joyce Marie Chavez and Tanesha Wagner (Mike); and her beloved siblings: Gloria Chavez (Rick), Rose Nies (Rob), Maggie Katzer (Troy), Maria Mallette (Richard), Melissa Chavez (Rodger), Angel Chavez (Lidia), Raymond Chavez (BJ), Richard Chavez (Jill), Tony Chavez, Henry Chavez (Regina), and Steve Chavez (Rita). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Qayne Chavez (Justin), Michael Wagner III, Javon Chavez, and Mikayah Wagner, along with her great-grandchild, Galyn Grisby, and a multitude of nieces and nephews who adored her.
Mary was preceded in death by her father, Agapito Chavez, Sr.; brother, Agapito Chavez, Jr.; sister, Ermelinda "Linda" Dyer; and granddaughter, Migalyn Wagner.
A rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, located at 9900 Stella Link Rd, Houston, TX 77025, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Houston Memorial Gardens, 2426 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, TX 77581, with a repast following the burial at Kings Banquet Hall, 2902 Almeda Genoa Rd, Houston, TX 77047.
Mary's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all the friends and loved ones who have offered support during this difficult time. Her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
