

Monserrate Vázquez Lozano was born on March 21, 1939 in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. He graduated from Colegio de Mayagüez with a degree in Civil Engineering. He also attended the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music.
Monserrate was a brilliant civil engineer for which he was part of the design of roads, highways, and bridges in Puerto Rico. He was also a talented singer and artist. He sang zarzuelas at Casa de España in Puerto Rico and was part of the musical "Show Boat" cast because of his powerful soprano voice. Monserrate shared his incredible voice at weddings and family gatherings. He also enjoyed fishing, conversing, and sports. He was a fan of the Vega Baja AA ball team, the Melao Melao de Vega Baja and the Semi-Professional Baseball League the Cangrejeros de Santurce. When he moved to Houston, he supported the Houston Astros and the Texans, formerly the Oilers.
Monserrate met Elsie, the love of his life, in Mayagüez and they had 4 children, Raquel Ivelisse, José Orlando, Juan Osvaldo and Javier Oscar. They were married for 57 years.
Monserrate is presided over in death by his beloved wife Elsie Bonilla de Vázquez, his parents Monserrate and Providencia Vázquez and their grandson Javier Giovanni "GIO" Vázquez. He leaves behind his children, Raquel Ivelisse Vázquez (daughter), José Orlando Vázquez and Carmen (son and wife), Juan Osvaldo Vázquez and Maleny (son and wife), and Javier Oscar Vázquez (son). He is survived by eight grandchildren; Gretchen, Joshua, Jonathan, Jimmy, Paolo, Juliano, Leonardo, Andrea. And seven great-grandchildren; Xain, Ziya, Zacaia, Kyrie, Kaleus, Violet, and Lynore. He is also survived by three siblings and seven nieces. Altagracia "Judith" (sister) and daughters Agma and Judith "Ita", Aida (sister) and daughters Wanda, Lourdes and Ilia, Samuel "Chati" (brother) and daughters Eniette "Enid" and Glori.
