Velma Ruby Belle Goodgion

on August 5, 2021 at her daughter Carol’s home where she has lived for the past nine and

one-half years. Velma was born on December 28, 1921 in Spring, Texas, the daughter of Emil and Lina

(Mueller) Wuensche. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Klein, Texas and

confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas by Rev. Dr. John Behnken in 1935.

She grew up on the family farm in Spring, Texas except for the year her family moved to

Houston, Texas so she could attend Trinity Lutheran School. Her family moved back to the farm

in Spring, Texas where she attended and graduated from Spring High School in 1939. On

September 5, 1942 she married Arthur V. Goodgion. They were blessed with 2 children, 10

grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. Velma worked for Foley’s in Pasadena for 20 years. She loved sewing and made many dresses and wedding dresses for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends. Over the years, she made 100 jackets for her very dear friend, Candy McClead. Velma loved to garden. She had many plants and flowers around her house and in her house. They thrived

under her tender and loving care. She loved to travel and visited 48 of the 50 United States.

She never made it to Alaska or Hawaii but it was on her agenda. Velma loved God with all her heart and shared that love with everyone she met. She even texted devotions to all her family and friends. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at Zion in Pasadena where she was a member for many years. She was a prayer warrior and would pray for family and friends every night. In her later years she returned to be a member of Trinity Lutheran in Houston. Velma is survived by her daughters, Carol (Goodgion) Hanssen and Nancy (Ronald) Meese. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur V. Goodgion, one son-in-law, John Hanssen, one infant grandson, Jonathan, her sisters: Edna, Leona, Agatha, Rosella, Frieda, and Flora and her brothers: Lawrence, Richard, Harry, and Adolf.
