Born on October 19, 1937, in Illinois to Roy Stuart Barnard and Vivian Dorothy Barnard, Jackie’s early years were shaped by resilience and love. After losing her mother at the age of 10, she journeyed to California with her father and stepmother, embracing a new chapter in life.
Jackie attended Morningside High School, where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, Alan Johnson. Together, they welcomed two daughters, Carol Nissen and Therese “Teri” Kuhns. Though their paths diverged, Jackie’s journey led her to Wallace “Wally” Nissen, the love of her life, whom she met while working at the Los Angeles Police Department. Together, they shared a passion for animals, horseback riding, and adventure.
Their love story was extended into the business world, when they took on the opportunity to own a Taco Bell franchise in 1964. In 1979, they relocated to Paso Robles, bringing their favorite epicurean delights to the community. After a few years, they grew their business to five restaurants. Jackie’s unwavering work ethic and dedication helped shape their success.
Jackie’s heart was devoted to faith. She was an active member of St. Rose of Lima Church, serving as a CCD teacher, a lector at Mass, and a guiding presence in the RCIA program.
Beyond her faith and work, Jackie embraced life with joy and passion. She loved horseback riding, reading, water skiing, and traveling. But her greatest love was for her family.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Nissen and Teri Kuhns (Art Kuhns); her stepchildren, Tony Nissen (Nancy Nissen) and Lori Daney; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Jackie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her kindness, and her ability to bring warmth and love to everyone she met. Her legacy of love and strength will continue to inspire all who knew her.
