Maria De La Luz “Lucy” Velasquez, 45, passed away on February 22, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 3, 1980, in Los Angeles, California, to Maximino and Maria Elena Velasquez, and moved to Paso Robles at the age of 14.
Lucy had the biggest heart and cared deeply for her family, friends, and all who knew her. She spent many years working with the elderly, learning valuable lessons from them and forming lasting, loving memories. Through her work as a bank teller at Wells Fargo over the past ten years, she became a friend to the community, recognized and loved by local merchants and residents throughout Paso Robles for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering care.
Lucy enjoyed the simple joys in life: traveling, long drives, listening to music, a hike overlooking the ocean, a peaceful sunset, movie nights, and a good glass of wine. A true Los Angeles native at heart, she loved the Raiders, the LA Clippers, and especially the LA Dodgers. She loved spending time with her nephew Andrew, spoiling him with love and creating cherished memories together — from enjoying Chinese food to visiting Universal Studios to spending almost every weekend of his childhood together. She also treasured time with family, friends, her cousins, their wives, and especially their children (whom she fondly called her reinas and reyes), as well as her many godchildren, embracing her role as godmother with love and dedication.
Lucy was soft-spoken, yet when she spoke, everyone listened; she was honest, patient, selfless, and a friend anyone could rely on. Lucy touched the lives of so many. Those who knew her refer to her as a guiding light, someone who taught them how to be a better friend and how to show up when it mattered most. She made others feel fearless and valued, and her generosity, thoughtfulness, and loving spirit left a lasting impact on everyone around her.
Lucy is survived by her loving parents and siblings: Salvador Velasquez; Maximino Velasquez and his wife Beatriz; Celestino Velasquez and his wife Cecilia; and Francisca Velasquez. She also leaves her beloved nephew Andrew, his wife Makila, and their children, Luca and Vera Elena Velasquez.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kuehl-Nicolay Funeral Home in Paso Robles.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church in Paso Robles, California. Interment will follow at Paso Robles District Cemetery.
Lucy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, her reinas and reyes, godchildren, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her warmth, generosity, laughter, and loving spirit will be remembered always.
