Dick Phillips, 56, of Pataskala, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 4, 2024 at his home away from home in South Carolina. He was born on January 6, 1968 in Mason County, KY, a son to Gerald “Pete” Phillips Sr. and the late Vera (Chilcote) Phillips. Dick is survived by his loving children, Alissa Timura and Kyle Phillips; grandchildren, Nora, Charlotte and Keagan Timura; brother, Jonathan Phillips; nephews, Jonathan Jr. and Jordan Phillips and many friends. In addition to his mother, he is also preceded in death by his brother William “Joe” Phillips.
A 1986 graduate of Nelsonville-York High School, he enlisted in the Army and eventually was medically relieved due to a wrist injury in 1987. Shortly thereafter, he began his career in the lumber industry at Sutherlands. There he met Christine Applegate who he married and shared two beautiful children with. He climbed the sales ranks with Khempco and NILCO to eventually take on the role of Vice President of Specialty Products with Contract Lumber. Along the way he made many lifelong friends and travel companions.
Dick was a jetsetter. For over 30 years, he traveled to many corners of the world but no destination had his heart like Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he relished the waves, sunshine and relaxation. While there he also enjoyed numerous rounds of golf with many close friends who would travel just about anywhere to tee off with him. Golf wasn’t his only pastime as he was an avid Ohio sports fan, cheering on his Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
