Janet was born on November 14, 1944 in Oak Hill, OH, a daughter to the late Jefferson and Frances (Hughes) McDaniel. She was the youngest of 4 children. She attended South Central School until 5th grade then graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1962. During high school she met the love of her life, Dannie Kuhn. After graduation Janet moved to Columbus and attended business school. Soon after she started her career in the billing department at Ohio Bell. Jan and Dan were married in 1965 and moved to Germany shortly after when Dannie received his orders from the Army. She lived with him there for about a year and spoke fondly of the people she met and the food they were introduced to.
When they returned to the States, they moved to their Oaklawn Avenue home in Columbus. She resumed her work at Ohio Bell until the birth of her son, Eric, in 1972. They remained in Columbus through the birth of their daughter, Nicole, in 1976. In 1979 they built and moved into their home in Beechwood Trails in Pataskala, Ohio where they resided to the present day. They made lifelong friends and created many lasting memories with their friends and their children.
As the kids grew up, Janet began working for JcPenney’s in the catalog department. She worked there for over 25 years. After retiring from JCPenney’s she spent several years working as a cashier at the Pataskala Kroger as a cashier until her total retirement in 2020. Janet loved chatting with customers and was known all over town as a favorite cashier.
Janet loved to work outdoors in her flowerbeds and enjoyed the sunshine as well as watching and feeding the birds. She had a sharp sense of humor and a way about her that made everyone feel welcomed and at home. She would make sure that everyone who entered her doors was fed; even if they weren’t hungry, she had a way of convincing them to eat. She was definitely persistent! She loved spending time with her family and made family reunions an important event. She would help anyone who needed it, asking nothing in return. Everyone who met her loved her. She ensured that her family spent time together and were happy and healthy.
She loved being a grandmother to Savannah (1998), Nathaniel (2004), and Aidan (2004). She made each of her grandchildren feel special and loved. She will forever be missed and her memory will always be honored.
Janet is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Dannie Stewart Kuhn; children, Eric (Kimberly) Kuhn of Pataskala and Nicole (Brandt) Beavers of Gahanna; grandchildren, Savannah Beavers, Nathaniel Kuhn and Aidan Beavers; brother, Raymond (Marsha) McDaniel of Kentucky; sister-in-law, Barbara Lewis of Vinton and many nieces and nephews.
