Kathy grew up in Belpre, OH. After high school, she became a Registered Nurse and worked at hospitals and for private practices during her career. After retirement, she was an ardent volunteer. A few of her favorite gigs were Picnic with the Pops, the Ohio Theater, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Ameriflora, WOSU, the State House, and both the Son of Heaven and Santa Maria exhibits when they came to Columbus. Kathy loved to sing, particularly as part of Vintage Voices of Granville.
Kathy also enjoyed traveling, and frequently would drive to either the East Coast or FL to visit her kids, grandkids, and grand-dogger. Or to North Carolina to see her brother and sister-in-law. She made these long drives by herself into her 80s, despite pleas from her family to “just fly instead, would ya?”
Kathy was pre-deceased by her parents, George and Mary Durbin, her brother Russ Durbin, and her sister Sharon Huston. She is survived by her son Robert and her grandchildren Jacob and Abigail; her daughter Diane and son-in-law Michael; and numerous other family that she loved and cherished: Cathy, Nancy, Rich, Shannon (her favorite of all of us), Spencer, Nicholas, Erin; David, Linda, their children Adam, Matthew, Nathan, and Robin and their families; Tom, Wendy, Phil, Mariella, Tommy, Sherry, Heidi; Aunt Glo; Uncle Chetty (the Green Phantom), Linda and her family; Rick, Mark, and Randy and their families; Judy and her family; and Jeff and his family (this list is the tip of the iceberg). She will be missed by her remaining family and her many friends, among them her dear friend Gisela, who was tirelessly there for Kathy these past several years.
The family thanks Mt. Carmel Hospice and their wonderful nurses for getting her home for her final few days. We are especially grateful to the angels on earth, Donita, Marilyn, and Suzanne, her devoted hospice caregivers who, along with her beloved niece Nancy, helped Kathy on her journey to return to stardust. Kathy’s wishes were granted. Everything was as she wanted it.
The family will have a private celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, please take yourselves out to a special dinner and celebrate her in your own fashion. Kathy would want us to live our lives to the fullest and to celebrate hers joyfully, instead of mourning that she’s no longer here. She said many times in the past few years, “I’ve been so active and done so many things, I really had a great life!”
