

He was an active member in the Pataskala community serving many roles including but not limited to Jersey Township Trustee, Lima Township Trustee, West Licking Fire Board, Mid Ohio Regional Planning Board, President of the Licking County Township Association, Pataskala City Council President, Southwest Licking Water & Sewer Board along with other various community related boards for over 50 years combined.
As a lifelong farmer, a business owner many times over and active member of the Pataskala community, there was no lack of life long friendships, laughter and memories that were made in his 89 years of life. He had a passion and love for agriculture and dedicated some of his time as a secretary for the Ohio Poland China Association. Melvin also loved a good auction.
Those who knew Melvin knew that aside from his mischievousness, which was always aplenty, he would have given the shirt off of his back to anyone who needed it. Melvin strongly believed in his family, his friends and fairness. He believed in helping others and had such a big heart for his little community that was always important to him.
In addition to wearing many different hats within the community he so dearly loved, some of his business ventures included ownership of Mary Lou’s Carryout, Hite’s Grocery (Jersey), Hite’s Service Station (Jersey) and Hite’s Greenhouse.
Melvin is preceded in death by his wife Nancy, his parents Clarence & Doris and his sister Mina.
Melvin is survived by children: Beth (Tim) Mary, Todd (Wendy), Leah (Scott), grandchildren: Niki , Tristan, Connar, Tanner, Mackenzie, Ellie, great grandchild: Maddi extended family: George Pendexter (Rita) and several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
