Irene Jeanette Roland

Irene Jeanette Roland, age 91 of Payette passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 29, 2017 at her home with her son and daughter and two granddaughters by her side. There will be a Vigil and Rosary on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 7:00 in the evening at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Fruitland, ID. The Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 10:00 am at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Fruitland, ID. Fr. Camilo Garcia will officiate. Irene was born on November 4, 1925, in Whiting, Indiana. She was the 5th of six children. Her Parents were George and Sophia Sluka.

She graduated from Whiting High School and got a job in the lab at Inland Steel; Co. in East Chicago on the shores of Lake Michigan. She met a sailor near the end of World War II who was attending the Naval Air School in Chicago. His name was Cyril “Bub” Roland from Ontario, Oregon. Three months later they were married on November 22, 1945. Cyril and Irene lived in Whiting for six years, until they moved to Payette, Idaho to start their adventure in farming. It was a very difficult adjustment for Irene, but she did adjust, and eventually enjoyed country life better that city life. Cyril and Irene lived on Little Willow Rd. for over sixty years. They raised six children on the farm.

Irene is survived by her daughter Lois (Gary) Davis of Ontario, OR; sons, Tom (Marcia) Roland, Dan Roland, and Clark (Danita) Roland all of Payette, ID; her daughter-in-law Ruth Roland of Bonners Ferry, ID; 17 grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by Cyril, her loving husband of 67 years, her oldest son Jim and her youngest son Alan.

A special thank you to Horizon Hospice of Weiser, ID and especially to Denice and Justine, the two angels they sent to care for our mother.
