In the early hours of December 28th, 2017, Lois Genevieve Davis of Payette, Idaho, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, Oregon. She was 90 years old.
She was born Lois Genevieve Martin on August 5th, 1927 in Los Angeles County, California. She was the first child of Genevieve Estella Davis and Richard King Martin. Three years later she helped welcome her sister Donna J. Martin into the family. She was raised and graduated from high school in Covina, California.
Lois married Wallace “Wally” Vanley Davis on July 28th, 1946. The two met while she was attending college at University of La Verne in La Verne, California. Lois worked as an accountant during the early years of marriage, and they welcomed their first son, Mark Allen Davis, on December 12, 1950. Shortly after Mark’s birth, in 1952 they moved from California to Payette, Idaho. Their second son Steven Wallace Davis was born on January 7th 1954. They started the Davis Orchards farm in 1955 while raising their boys. They were happy to have many family members join them in moving to the area over the following years. Lois & Wally worked side by side, running the orchards, and over the years Lois did everything from the accounting & payroll, to helping prune tree’s and thin and harvest apples. The farm grew, and they continued to manage it together for many years, until they retired and moved into town in 1992. They were married for over 50 years at the time of Wally’s passing in 1997.
During recent years, as Lois struggled with her health, she spent most of her time with her granddaughters in Portland, Oregon. During this time, they were able to build many happy memories, and are grateful for the time together.
Lois was a kind and loving soul, and an amazing caregiver to all those around her. She enjoyed hard work and was happiest helping others. She liked yard work and gardening – especially flowers, challenging jigsaw & crossword puzzles, sewing, crotchet & doll making, and greatly enjoyed fishing and bird watching with Wally. She admired hummingbirds every day, had a great sense of humor, and what she loved most of all was spending time with family and friends. She was a very loving and loyal wife, mother, grandmother, auntie and friend.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents Genevieve and Richard, her husband Wally, her step-brother George, and her sons Mark and Steven as well as some beloved friends along the way.
Lois is survived by her sister Donna J. Surmeier, her sister-in law Sheila Whiting, granddaughters Nola M. Davis and Christi R. Davis – along with many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am – 12 pm (noon), Saturday, January 13th at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel in Payette with the service following at 2 pm at the chapel and will conclude at the chapel. Pastor Rebecca Patterson is officiating. Services are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. Condolences may be made to Lois’ family at www.shaffer-jensenchapel.com.
