Edwin Martelous Gardner Sr.

Edwin Martelous “Eddie” Gardner, Sr. of Tyrone, GA passed away on August 18, 2023 after an extended hospitalization, following a traumatic injury earlier this year. Eddie was born on August 25, 1948 in Atlanta, GA to Richard L. Gardner, Jr. and Carrilee McKee Gardner.

Eddie grew up in Southwest Atlanta and attended Southwest High School where he played basketball and baseball. At the age of 19 he began working at Bethlehem Steel as a mail and file clerk. When he retired, he was a Regional Sales Manager over the Southeastern United States. He later worked for IBM for a number of years. For the last 10 years of his life, he devoted himself to being the caregiver for his son, Eddie Jr. and he was extremely dedicated to his son’s care and provided for him essentially 24/7. When time permitted, he enjoyed working on cars, especially antique cars.

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Brian Gardner; and his brother, Richard L. Gardner III.

He is survived by his son, Eddie Gardner Jr.; step-daughters, Brandie Price (Wes) and Stephanie West (Brian) and their children, Eva and Elin Price and Asa and Gentry West; brother, James (Christine) Gardner; niece, Jennifer Rocco (Dan); nephews, Rick Gardner (Betsy) and Andrew Gardner (Jennifer); and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 11:00am. A visitation will be held from 10:00am-10:45am in the Parish Life Center, adjacent to the sanctuary.

Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, GA at 2:30pm.
