

Elizabeth Elaine Stith Tarleton, eighty-one, died on December 20, 2023, in Sharpsburg, Georgia. She was born on November 22, 1942, in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Leland and Ruby (Haynes) Stith. Elaine grew up in Lakewood Heights neighborhood of Atlanta and graduated from Fulton High School. Following high school, she had an extended and successful career with the National Park Service, US Department of Interior at the Southeastern Regional Office. Elaine was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. After her retirement she enjoyed traveling with her husband Harold L. Tarleton Sr., and spending time with her son and his family. She volunteered with The Red Cross on many disaster reliefs and helped in NYC during 9/11. She particularly enjoyed visiting the National Parks throughout the United States, vacationing at the beach and earlier in her life camping with her sons and serving in her community through her son’s many sport activities.
She is survived by her son, Harold L. Tarleton Jr. (Hal) and his wife Tanya Tarleton, granddaughters Haley and Joanie Tarleton and step-granddaughter Cameron Nielsen. She is preceded in death by her husband Harold L. Tarleton Sr., and her son Craig Tarleton. She is additionally preceded in death by her sister Vicky Stith Rucco. She is survived by her sister, Lynn Stith Burns, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other beloved extended family.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on 12/29 at 2PM at Carmichael -Hemperley Funeral Home.
