George Stokes Maxwell, 73, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Georgia War Veterans Home. He was born on July 28, 1941 in Kosciusko, MS. After graduation from Pearland High School in Pearland, TX, he attended Texas A&M; leaving to serve in the US Army from 1963-1969; receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal-Vietnam and Sharpshooter Badge. He worked for Northwest Airlines until retirement.
George was preceded in death by his parents William F. Maxwell and Hazel Elliott Maxwell. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Erwin Maxwell; two step-daughters, Janie McWilliams Falconer (Scott) and Lauren McWilliams Biggs (David); and 7 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at 11:00am in the chapel at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City, GA with Rev. Rick Price officiating. The family will receive friends for thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will be at Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City, GA, with military honors.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in George’s honor to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Cornerstone UMC in Newnan, GA.
