Kim Wilson, 58, went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 27th, in Fayetteville, Georgia. Kim fought a valiant fight against a recently discovered illness. Throughout her battle, she never wavered, trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ. Kim will always be known as a determined and focused woman with a kind and gentle heart. Her faith served as a living example of her true love for God and her family.
Kim was born on May 12th, 1964, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, to William Burnette Johnson Jr. and the late Loretta Taylor. Kim grew up in Nashville and Atlanta and built beautiful memories of spending summers with family in Northport, Al, and Waycross, Ga. On May 27, 1995, she was married to Lewey Clayton Wilson Jr, and to that union, a son, Lewey Clayton Wilson, III, was born.
Kim earned her B.S in Marketing from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, and an M.B.A in Marketing from Clark-Atlanta University. Kim felt God was calling her to use her marketing skills to assist ministries strategically in bringing people to Christ. Kim left corporate America and focused on what God had for her to do.
Kim has worked in marketing for Coca-Cola U.S.A, Xerox Corporations, and The Barna Research Group. Kim served as an adjunct Professor for Regent and Liberty Universities and authored several outreach ministry books and training guides, including "The Church Marketing Recipe Book: for New and Small Churches with Limited Budgets" and "The ABSTINENCE Handbook: For Women and Girls throughout the World" (available in English, Spanish, French and Kiswahili languages). Kim has been committed to utilizing her outreach marketing skills and experience to help Christian leaders, ministries, and organizations reach people for Jesus Christ. She used whatever methods were available, whether by word of mouth, radio, or television. She also was part of the promotion team that successfully spearheaded the marketing efforts for Mel Gibson's movie, "The Passion of the Christ."
Kim was also very committed to providing need-based outreach initiatives. The G.A.P Global Network focused on jobs, education, and housing to help people experience God's best for their lives. Named after her mother, The Loretta Johnson Global Abstinence Movement educates minority girls and young women about the dangers of premarital sex and the adverse effects it could have on their lives. This movement especially took hold in Africa, where young women are under constant threat of sexual assault and HIV.
Kim is survived by her husband of 27 years, Lewey Clayton Wilson Jr.; her son, Lewey Clayton Wilson III; her father, William Burnette Johnson Jr.; her aunt, Rosiland Corley; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Kim was preceded in death by her mother, Loretta Taylor Johnson; aunts, Bettie Morris and Carson Taylor; and her uncles, James Earnest Johnson and Gregory Taylor.
