

Opal Johnson Flowers, age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Ashley Glen Assisted Living in Peachtree City, Georgia. She was the daughter of William O. and Annie Harris Johnson of Fayette County and she grew up in Shakerag. She was married to Harry N. Flowers of Peachtree City for 67 wonderful years together. She was a loving, giving and caring wife and supported Harry during his careers in the Army, the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta and the property rental and lending business. She also carefully kept and maintained financial records and books for Harry’s property transactions and dealings for many years. She was also kind and devoted to her mother. When Opal’s mother became ill and diagnosed with Alzheimer’s during the 1970’s, Opal got in her car and traveled virtually every day to care for her mother for ten years until her death in 1984. Opal was a long time resident of southwest Atlanta until 1988 when she and Harry moved to Peachtree City. As with her mother, Opal was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and became a resident of Ashley Glen for several years prior to her passing. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Sarah J. Barnes. She is survived by her husband, and nephew, Larry Barnes of Douglasville. Visitation will take place on Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home and the funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City, GA. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. The family will be accepting flowers.
