Mrs. Sylvia Margaret Strelec, 82, of Peachtree City, GA passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Piedmont Hospital in Fayetteville, GA. She was born in 1939 to the late Joseph F. Pavlik (1984) and Margaret Pacek Pavlik (1980) the eldest of three children.
Sylvia grew up in Sarver, PA and graduated from Freeport High School. Sylvia was the first in her family to attend and graduate college. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Slippery Rock State College in 1961. She married Joseph Albert Strelec of Tarentum, PA in 1962. Joe remained the love of her life. Her teaching career began at Freeport High School and a move to South Carolina later found her teaching at Butler High School and A.R. Johnson Health & Science Magnet School in Augusta, GA. She taught Physical Education and Health for over 30 years and served as the Tennis Coach. During those years, she touched the lives of many young men and women and was beloved. Always putting family first, Sylvia relocated to Peachtree City, GA in 2007 to be near her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. Her faith was important to her being a former member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in North Augusta, SC and an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City, GA.
Her passions included current events, movies, traveling and spoiling her granddaughter, Anna. Trips to Europe, Hawaii and back home to Sarver were among her favorite destinations. If it involved family, it was always the priority. She was one of the kindest and most thoughtful people that you would ever meet. She was witty with an innate gift to gab. Despite her health challenges in her later years, her disposition remained pleasant all of the time. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother and Sister. Those that knew Sylvia, loved her. She loved all. And that demonstration of love, was her life’s legacy.
Sylvia is predeceased by her husband, Joe Strelec (1986); and her sister, Joyce Uhrinek (2008).
Sylvia is survived by her son, Joe (Cindy) Strelec; granddaughter, Anna Strelec; and brother, Rich Pavlik. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She made the world a better place and will be dearly missed.
