Betty Ruth Moore Cockroft passed away peacefully on September 8, 2021. Betty was born on February 23, 1934 to the late Elbert Moore and Estelle Pope Moore in Carthage, Mississippi. Betty was 87 years old and lived most of her life in Pearl, Mississippi. She spent the last four years at Madden Lighthouse in Madden, MS. She loved her caregivers and spent countless days sewing with her best friend, Shirley Ruth Jones.
Betty came from a large family and her family was her greatest treasure. Betty was known affectionately as “Sista” or “Aunt Sista” to much of her family. Many considered her to be the Matriarch among the family. She always organized large family gatherings making sure there was fun for everyone. A member of Flowood Baptist Church, she was a very caring and loving person. She truly had a servants heart and was always ready to extend a helping hand to anyone in need. Leaving home to be on her own at a very young age, she would send care packages home to her younger siblings. Betty retired from BellSouth after working many years as a Group Manager in Operator Services.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Samuel Lamar Cockroft. There was never a man that was cared for and catered to like Lamar - the love of Betty’s life. She also was preceded by brothers, Pete Moore and Bobby Gene Moore; and sisters, Dorothy Williams, Pat Bynum, and Gertrude Moore.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Cockroft DuBois (Mike); grandchildren, Michael Lamar DuBois (Laura) and Cassi DuBois Strange (Stewart); great-grandchildren, Waverly Kate Strange, Dempsey Stewart Strange, Ryder Lamar DuBois, and Ruby Mae DuBois; brother, Billy Joe Moore; sisters, Ruby Burns and Delores Smith; sister-in-law Mary Craft; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Due to Covid19, the immediate family will be holding a private service. The funeral services will be livestreamed on the funeral home Facebook page at 2:00pm on Wednesday September 15, with a link provided on the funeral home website. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Moore, Larry Moore, Bud Moore, Anthony Burns, Roy Bynum, Jason Smith, Brad Smith, and David Craft.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Madden Lighthouse at PO Box 8, Madden, Mississippi 39109. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the caregivers at Madden Lighthouse for their extraordinary and loving care.
