Well Pope's guestbook will be leaving soon.I wish everyone who were associated with Mr Pope a very Happy Holiday and may the Lord be with you all forever and always. I feel that this is my final goodbye to a very kind  person. God bless you guys.

I still can't believe that he is no longer teach at BRCC. I was his student at 2008 spring. I am an international student. By the time I took his class, I was barely speak English. Mr. Pope is always my favorite instructor. He encouraged me to achieve my goals regardless of my language problem. I recommended him to all of my friends and they all happy with him. I will always remember him. May he rest in Peace!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss Chris was a wonderful Person. I feel very sorry for the loss to his family and as a friend he will be missed My prayers will be with you.

I was so saddened to hear about Chris's passing. We were classmates and fellow saxaphonists at Pearl High. He was always kind and quiet, but when he did speak it was always with wisdom and often with humor. He will be missed.

While I can't imagine anyone seeing Chris and missing the full power of his personality, I fear many do just that. He stretched his brain as far as it would go. Many thought his brilliance was a product of great ability; it was the much more difficult and laudable product of great dedication. He loved cats, although he was allergic to them. He liked girly bath products and the effects they had on his skin. He liked game night, where he regularly lost Europe to the 'terrible, invading horde from the east'; and he never got tired of Risk. He loved puzzles; we spent far too much time looking for a Coke memorabilia puzzle he'd once had. He made clever jokes with language and philosophy, and there was always a new light about him when someone got one of them. Given the chance, he loved and laughed and fell flat in the pride of being good at everything from physics to cooking. 

There's too much to say: too many moments to fit into language, but it is truly enough to say that with full acknowledgement to every flaw that appears with intimacy, and in the fullness of time, he was brilliant and beautiful: a geniunely fine man. 

The world was better with him in it.

I first met Pope the Summer semester of 2009. I had a little girl who was 8 months old. Pope was my English 101 instructor and I remember telling him that if I would ever miss his class it would be due to my daughter didnt have a babysitter and he told me "Hey, Kendra that's alright if that ever happens just bring her to class with you. That's when I knew he was really concerned about me as a student. I then decided to take Pope's class again the Spring semester of 2010 and when I started that semester I was 6 months pregnant. Pope complimented me on coming to school in my situation. I remember Pope and I had a chat one day after class and I told him that he had lost a lot of weight and he told me that he was having some stomach problems and I told him that I would bring him some medicine from my job (he had told me that the medicine was expensive) because I wanted his stomach problems to be better. I dont know the cause of his death but I really did look at him as a teacher and a friend. I will truly, truly miss him. I am giving his family my deepest sympathy. I feel like I have lost some one that was related to me. I find myself thinking about him everyday. Pope was a really good person and I will truly miss him. I am sorry for this being so long but I wanted to share my experience with Pope. RIP Mr. Pope

I first met Pope, (thats all anybody I ever knew called him) when he was that guy in the back who would never shut up about Robert Heinlein in Sci Fi class. 

Later I came to know him through the Hightower/Duggar Smokers Union crowd. 

Later he was my Neighbor at the grove. 

Through thick or thin, Pope could always be counted on as a friend. And one who would always give his honest thoughts on any situation. I will always treasure my time I spent with him, and especially the last time I had an opportunity to see him. We were celebrating a professional achievement of mine in April 2010. He truly had a good time that night. And I will always remember him as that happy, successful, individual that he was that night. The smile on his face that night will never fade in my mind.

To the Pope Family, I am a student at BRCC in the Monday night class of Mr. Pope. We are sadden and shocked about his passing. Our prayers and hearts go out to your family.

Please accept my deepest sympathies upon the passing of your beloved Chris, Of Blessed Memory.

I had the privilege of becoming acquainted with Chris at Baton Rouge Community College, where I am Adjunct Instructor of History 212, The Holocaust.

Chris was of immense help to me in my class, and a wonderful, precious, insightful mentor for our daughter.

I shall always remember how very helpful he was in preparing a surprise birthday party for my wife in December, 2008.

My heart and prayers are with you in this most difficult hour.

May God bring you comfort, courage and strength from the everlasting memories of Chris.  I shall always cherish the time that we were together.

I never had the opportunity to meet Chris, but he certainly seems to have been an accomplished and well-loved young man. Having children myself, I can't begin to imagine the devastation you're feeling. My thoughts and prayers have been, and will continue to be, with you as you go forward.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve the loss of your precious son Chris.  We can't imagine the void that a parent feels when going through such a tremendous loss.  Our prayer in the coming months, is that you may be able to celebrate the wonderfu accomplishments Chris made and that you will find comfort knowing that he is in Heaven with his Lord and Savior.  Today's memorial service was a wonderful tribute to Chris's life, and we need to celebrate this. We love you all.

i scheduled my classes the moment brcc let us online. i was so excited to be taking mr popes class, i asked everyone i knew there and they told me to take him and that he was the best. i want to let the pope family know that every student i have talked to has said nothing but good things about him. i did not have the opprotunity to meet him, yall are in my prayers and im sure every student at brcc is in great shock and we are ALL sending prayers yall way!!

I first met Chris when he came to Baton Rouge Community College as a part time instructor and because of the proximity of his office to mine, came to know him better after he was appointed to a full time position.
Chris was a warm and friendly man who was as good at listening as he was at talking.  He took time for his colleagues as well as his students although he was so busy with his classes at BRCC as well as his work on his Ph.D. One of our last conversations was about our shared passion: British literature, and I was struck once again by the fine mind behind the genial exterior.  His life enriched the lives of those around him, and that is the best epitaph anyone can have. He will be greatly missed by his students and friends here at BRCC.

To the Pope family - I had the pleasure of getting to know Chris in the residence hall during our Freshman year at MSU - all of the guys on our floor in Hightower knew him affectionately as "the Pope", or simply "Pope".  Pope lived across the hall from me, and we also marched in the Famous Maroon Band together.

Pope was such an intelligent young man, and he helped me immensely in several of my classes.  He was witty beyond belief, fiercely loyal to those that he valued and he could play the bassoon better than anyone I've ever met!  

Please know that I, and the residents of Hightower Hall, 2nd floor, fall of 1994, loved that Pope was a part of our college experience, and that we grieve with you in his loss.
