Delores Griffin, age 74, of Pearl, died at the home of her brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Cindy, in Madison in the early morning hours on February 13, 2025, from cancer. Her 94 year old mother, Myrtle, was also present during Delores' final days and hours.
Delores was born in Meridian on Father's Day, June 18, 1950, to Alvis and Myrtle Griffin. She was the first of three children and was welcomed into the world by all the family with great joy. She was a true girl of the fifties and loved pretty clothes, particularly frilly dresses. She attended school initially in Philadelphia until the family moved to the panhandle of Florida where she completed her formal education when she graduated from Pensacola High School.
For most of her adult life Delores worked in the banking industry with stops in Atlanta and Orlando. For the last twenty-five years she worked for Trustmark National Bank in different roles including as a trainer and also in the mortgage servicing department. She was always recognized as a hard worker and someone that never procrastinated.
While she enjoyed her professional life everyone that knew "Delo" understood that her real passion was for the many dogs she had over the years and her green thumb for gardening. She loved every one of her four legged babies, many of which were rescue dogs on their last chance, and was known to spoil them rotten, for which she never apologized. She also never got over being that little fifties girl and loved sparkle, shoes and handbags. In her own words she had always been a "girlie" girl.
Delores was a devoted member of Grandview Baptist Church and a person of strong faith all her life. She was preceded in death by her father and her brother, Michael Laverne Griffin, and all of her grandparents, along with many aunts and uncles. She is survived by her mother, Myrtle Griffin, who she cared for in the last nine years of her life; her brother, Dennis Griffin and wife Cindy; nephew, Brian Griffin and wife Tiffany; her Maltipoo, Marley; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Her memorial service will be held at Grandview Baptist Church on South Pearson Road, Pearl, on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 11:00am, followed by visitation in the fellowship hall.
