Dorothy June Dunne McClelland, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on August 2, 2025, in Pearl, Mississippi, after a long battle with dementia. She was 91.
Born on June 1, 1934, in Queens, New York, to Arthur and Ellen Stow, Dorothy spent her early years in New York before relocating to Mississippi in 1977. Trained as a secretary, her intelligence, warmth, and professionalism made her highly respected and sought after in her field. She dedicated the last 30 years of her career to serving the State of Mississippi.
After the passing of her husband, Dorothy became actively involved in the local chapter of Parents Without Partners, where she served as a member, board member, and eventually president. She found great joy in connecting with others and offering support to those navigating the challenges of single parenthood.
Dorothy had a zest for life. She loved dancing, playing games with friends, traveling, acting in local theater productions, and working on puzzles. Above all, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and friends.
Her legacy is one of strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Dunne; her brother, Gerald Stow; and her grandson, Alex Carson.
She is survived by her children: Paul Dunne (Dolly), Brian Dunne, Shannon Steele (Clint), and Steven Dunne; her grandchildren: Aiden, Logan, and Jack; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
The family extends special thanks to her daughter-in-law and caregiver, Dolly, for her compassion and dedication.
Dorothy’s presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In accordance with her wishes, no formal service will be held. A private memorial will take place at a later date to scatter her ashes in the Atlantic Ocean.
