Eva was born in Douglas County, Missouri on October 2, 1934 to Bertha and John Gaw. She attended school in Cabool, Missouri up to the 8th grade.
Eva married Maxwell D. Spivey on August 3, 1957. They were married for 36 years. Eva enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, cooking, reading, and baking. Gardening was her true passion. She called it “playing in the dirt”. Eva grew fruit, vegetables, and the most beautiful flowers, especially roses. She loved to bake, called it “therapy” because on a bad day she could work out her frustrations kneading the dough then making delicious cinnamon and yeast rolls. Her other specialty was chocolate cake with homemade chocolate frosting. Eva loved reading her Bible, particularly the Psalms. Her favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ, which strengtheneth me.” Eva was a charter member of the church now named Heritage Baptist Church located in Byram, MS.
Eva is survived by her daughters, Shirley Hodges (Tom) of Forest, MS, and Ann Furman (Robert) of Pearl, MS; two grandchildren, Natalie Hodges and Jayden Furman; two nieces, as well as other relatives all over Missouri. Eva was preceded in death by her parents, John and Bertha Gaw; husband, Maxwell D. Spivey; and daughter, Rachel T. Smith.
Funeral services will be held at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, MS on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 10:00 am.
