Franklin was born June 14, 1931 in Moselle, Mississippi, the son of the late Silas D. Jenkins and Fannie W. Jenkins. He was a 1949 graduate of Moselle High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1950 and served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars before retiring in November 1970. He then enjoyed careers with the MS State Dept. of Audit and MS State Dept. of Transportation, where retired as a Property Officer in 1993. He married the love of his life, his beloved wife, Frances O’Quin Jenkins, on May 27, 1978 and they enjoyed many happy years together until her death in 2008.
A longtime member of Eastside Baptist Church in Pearl, Franklin enjoyed making breakfast with other church members and the church’s “game night” for the senior citizens.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and gardener. He also enjoyed playing dominoes with his “domino buddies”, Tom Ahrend, Clint Cobb, and Paul Smith every week. They spent many a day eating lunch together and sharing many laughs.
Franklin had moved to Brunswick two years prior to his death in order to be closer to his daughter and family. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye. He loved spoiling them.
In addition to his wife and parents, he also preceded in death by his brother, Mack Jenkins.
Survivors include his daughters, Sherrie Edgy (Joey) of Waynesville, GA and Linda Owen (Frank) of Kentwood, LA; five grandchildren, Daniel Owen of Hammond, LA, Tiffany Edgy Brooker (Scott) of Brunswick, GA, Jon Curtis Edgy of Waynesville, GA, Jerrett Edgy (Rebecka) of Waynesville, GA, and Darla Edgy Keen (Tim) of Rockwall, TX; four great-grandchildren, Jake and Morgan Brooker, Breland Davis, and Blake Edgy; sister, Dorothy Bazor of Trussville, AL; brother Rex Jenkins (Gwen) of Houston, TX; sister-in-law, Norma Patton Jenkins; and several nieces and nephews whom he adored.
