James C. “J.C.” Gipson, 90, died Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Hospice Ministries, Ridgeland. Visitation is 12:00-2:00pm Monday, April 25, 2011 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services will follow at 2:00pm in the funeral home chapel with interment in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.
Mr. Gipson was born December 12, 1920 in rural Central Mississippi, the fourth of five sons born to the late James Luther Gipson and Roberta Walker Gipson. His parents were sharecroppers and he grew up working on farms. He was a home building contractor for most of his adult life. He learned the basics while building Camp Shelby during WWII, after being turned down for military service due to an injury.
A long-time member of Pearson Baptist Church in Pearl, his hobbies included hunting, fishing and spending time with his many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Fuller Gipson, son, Phil Gipson, and brothers, Johnny, J.L., Allen and Savannah Gipson.
Survivors include sons, Jim Gipson and wife Vicki of Sugarland, TX and Anthony Gipson and wife Joyce of Rockwall, TX; daughter-in-law, Deborah Gipson of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Brant Gipson and wife Suzanne and Allison Gipson Morris and husband Tom all of Columbus, Ohio, Kirk Gipson and wife Marla of Memphis, TN, and Eden Gipson Stanton and husband Drew of Montgomery, AL; 4 great-grandchildren and one more blessing due to arrive in a few weeks.
