Jimmy had an innate thirst for knowledge that served him well throughout life. His career as an Engineer and self taught Computer Systems Analyst spanned more than 30 years with General Motors, Hewlett Packard, followed by nine years with the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
In his free time Jimmy enjoyed cars, motorcycles, woodworking, working outdoors with Janice, entertaining family with get togethers, and the company of his two faithful 17 year canine companions.
Twelve years ago Jimmy and his wife moved to his beloved property on the Simpson/Rankin County line. Here he felt at peace and one with the world around him. Jimmy’s greatest desire in life was to love and care for his family, and his beautiful homestead allowed them to spend many wonderful times together.
Jimmy will best be remembered for his beautiful smile, and quiet introspective manner. Jimmy was a man of few words, but when he did talk, those around him listened. His thoughts and opinions were highly respected and appreciated by his wife, family, friends, and co-workers alike. Heaven is blessed to have gained such a beautiful soul.
Survivors include his wife, Janice Murphy; sons, Greg Murphy and wife Billie, Gary Roebuck and wife Tellie, Giovanni Murphy and wife Christina; daughter, Ericka Self and husband Conner; sister, Audrey Murphy; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and seven beloved brother and sister in laws.
In appreciation for all who donated blood throughout Jimmy’s years of treatment, his family asks for those able and willing to donate blood to continue the gift of life to infants, children, cancer patients and many more during this blood crisis in MS.
The family will hold a Celebration on October 9, 2021 at 4:00 p.m.of Jimmy’s life. Please contact the family for details.
