Kathryn Boone Sullivan, 82, died Friday in Compere’s Nursing Home after a long illness.
She was born December 16, 1928 in McComb, Mississippi, the 7th of eleven children born to Claude and Gertrude Boone.
After Graduating from Salem High School in Wathall County, Kathryn attended Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville, TN and then relocated to Jackson, MS where she spent all her adult years.
She was married to the late Adam Sullivan for 42 years. During this time, she taught piano lessons in her home and later worked for the State of Mississippi.
She is survived by two sons; Lionel Sullivan of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama and Wendell Sullivan of Brandon, MS. She has two grandchildren; Misty Findley of Jacksonville, Texas and Jesse Sullivan of Brandon, MS. She has two great grandchildren; Madison and Brooklyn Findley of Jacksonville, Texas. Other survivors include three brothers; A. D. Boone of Summit, MS, Algie Boone of McComb, MS and Richard Boone of Byram, MS; two sisters; Claudine Ainsworth of Meridian, MS and Dorothy Hightower of McComb, MS and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathryn was a devoted follower of Christ and an active member of the Church of the Nazarene where she served in numerous capacities including hospitality, missions and in any other area needed. Her ministry calling, however, was the nursery where she served for many years. She loved babies and if on was within sight, Kathryn was going to hold that baby!
She was a true homemaker known for her “home” cooking and especially her “melt in your mouth” biscuits. Blessed with the gift of hospitality, she often cooked for her large extended family as well as visiting pastors, church friends and others who were invited to her home for a meal and fellowship.
Kathryn was an excellent seamstress and an avid crafter, making ceramics and many other craft items. In her later years, she moved to Sunnybrook Retirement Center in Madison, MS and taught various crafts to other residents there.
The joy of her life was her two grandchildren and two great grandchildren on whom she lavished her undivided attention and affection. She loved being with people and people naturally gravitated to her. She was a friend to all and will be missed by all.
Visitation it today from 10 AM to 1 PM at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl with the service immediately following at 1 PM. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
