She was born on August 14, 1937 in Belton, Texas to the late Thomas Melton Taggert and Eloise Jennings Taggert. Sue and her husband of 60 years, Al, were faithful members of Skyway Hills Baptist Church in Pearl. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting and making jewelry, including necklaces and brooches. She was also talented at various other crafts, including making table scarves and baking. Her sugar cookies were famous and well-loved; baked from scratch and iced by hand, Sue would gift them to everyone, such as the Pearl Fire Department, the Pearl Police Department, the Brandon Bulldog Band, children on her daughter-in-law's school bus, even the location manager at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Her Halloween tradition consisted on supplying staggering amounts of the irresistible treats as their delicious comfort brought now grown adults with families back to her doorstep who had gotten her cookies back when they were kids. Sue's sweet nature extended to her grandchildren and her great-children as well in her most recent years, and she loved spending time with them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alson "Al" Byrd Gilbert and her son, Thomas Gilbert.
Sue is survived her sons, Joe Gilbert (Lisa) and Steve Gilbert (Tina); daughter-in-law, Patsy Gilbert; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed.
