Linda was born September 3, 1943, in Smith County, a daughter of the late Shelby Cockrell and Clara Todd Cockrell.
Linda’s time on this earth can best be summed up in two words: love and devotion. She dedicated more than 30 years to serving others in the surgical department at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, devoted to ensuring that procedures for patients were planned correctly.
Love and devotion were first and foremost when it came to her family. Though sometimes expressed in a quiet way hers was a love that was deeply felt and experienced by her husband and children. Linda truly enjoyed caring for them, cooking special dishes and faithfully baking homemade biscuits each morning. Time in the kitchen with their mother, especially learning to make her homemade dressing, will remain a treasured memory for her daughters.
Linda’s love for life was evident in all that she did and she lived life to the fullest. In her free time she could be found playing Bingo with friends at the VFW, shopping, having her hair and nails done, or going out to eat. Linda truly appreciated and demonstrated love and devotion throughout her lifetime- for others and for life.
In addition to her parents Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Draughn Lee Boone; son-in-law, Billy Collins; and siblings, Patsy Ann Austin, Deborah Davison, Wendell Cockrell, Stanley Cockrell, and Sheila Patterson.
Survivors include daughters, Glenda Collins, and Cynthia Thigpen and husband Jerry Thigpen, Jr.; son, Lee Allen Boone; grandchildren, Justin William Collins, Jordan Lindsey Collins, Jerry “Trey” Thigpen, III, and Sheridan Thigpen Bullard; great-grandchild, Emery Jade Collins; brother, Charlie Cockrell; and companion, Jim Yarborough.
