Lucius S. LaBruyere, Jr., of Ridgeland, Mississippi, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 25, 2018, at the age of 93. He passed away from complications following orthopedic surgery at St Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, MS from a fall he sustained on November 22, 2018.
Lucius “Lutz” was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on January 15, 1925, to mother, Vivian May Walle and father, Lucius Sydney LaBruyere, Sr. Lutz attended Marrero High School where he graduated with distinction and played football and baseball. He attended Tulane University but did not graduate due to serving in the Navy during WWII. He was an active member of his church.
Lucius “Lutz” married Adeline G. Webre on November 9, 1947 in Vacherie, LA. He worked for Continental Can Company as a production control manager, payroll clerk, and credit union clerk. He worked in the Harvey, Louisiana plant from 1951 to 1960. In 1960, he was transferred to Pascagoula, MS. He worked there until December, 1969 where he was transferred to Birmingham, AL. He retired from Continental after 30 years. He then went to work for a pet food company as a quality control officer but did not like it. He then got a job working for Collateral Investment Corp as the payroll clerk and benefits officer. This was his last job until he retired. His hobbies were bowling, singing in the church choir at St. Peters Catholic Church in Hoover, AL and singing barbershop in a chorus in Hoover, AL. He was a member of the Veterans Association in Jackson, MS. He was residing at the Beau Ridge Memory Care in Ridgeland, MS.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Adeline Webre LaBruyere; parents Lucius and Vivian LaBruyere; and his sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and John Brandt, Sr.
He is survived by his brother, Lester (Beryl) LaBruyere; his daughters, Evelyn Harrison and Carol Breland of Brandon, MS; and his son, Kenneth (Dixie) LaBruyere of Bailey, MS. He has six grandchildren: Shan Sims McCarty (Jim) of Brandon, MS, Sean Michael Harrison Sr. (Danielle) of Haverhill, MA, Kevin Franklin Breland of Wren, MS, Renee LaBruyere Hargrove (Blake) of Huntsville, AL; Meredith LaBruyere Robinson (Chord) of Gluckstadt, MS, and Kelly Breland of Pelham, AL. He has the following great grandchildren: Autumn Sims, Kellen Breland, Ansley Harrison, Avery Robinson, Lacey Harrison, Asher Hargrove, Sean Harrison Jr., Caleb Hargrove, and Chandler Robinson.
Funeral services will be held at Baldwin Lee Funeral Home, 3780 Hwy 80 East, Pearl, MS on Saturday, December 1, 2018. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am and the memorial service will follow at 11:00 am. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
We would like to thank the staff at the Beau Ridge for their loving care to our dad, papaw, and great grandfather. We would also like to thank the staff of St Dominic’s Hospital on the Second Floor South and Orthopedic Floor. Also, a very special thank you to Dr. Jaeger and Dr. Fotvoy for their care. A very special thank you to Dr. Crowder of the Jackson Heart Group for going above and beyond for my dad.
To all our family and friends, thank you for your messages, texts, phone calls and most of all your prayers. We know our dad is smiling big because he is once again reunited with his only love, sweet Adeline.
