She was born Sept 11, 1938 in McComb, MS., the daughter of H.H. Price and Mary Louise Matthew Price. Her employers through the years included Standard Life Insurance Company, and BWI Industries. Upon becoming disabled in 1998, she retired from BWI Industries where she worked in accounting and IT. Faced with many debilitating health issues, her life was a daily challenge but she faced it bravely, with help from her loving son, Scott. She was valedictorian of her high school graduating class, and was awarded a scholarship to Tulane University's Sophie Newcomb College. After graduating High School, she appeared in LIFE magazine in a feature story written about Little Theatre groups across the country, based on the play "The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker" , in which she played the lead female role. Pud, as she was affectionately known by family, loved to read and listen to music and, when she was able, to sit on the porch at night at her family's home on Topisaw Farm, listening to the birds, crickets and night sounds.
Mary Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael Dean Dyer; and her daughter-in-law, Anne Leon Dyer.
Survivors include her sons, John Keith Dyer and wife, Margarita of Virginia, David Mark Dyer, of Louisiana, and Joel Scott Dyer of Jackson, MS; two sisters and their husbands, Susan and Bill Crews, of North Carolina, and Maggie and Chris Stauder, of McComb; a daughter-in-law, Roxanne Dyer of Clinton; grandchildren, Robert Dyer, Carla Dyer and Melissa Dyer; nephews, Matt Williamson, Billy Crews, and Jeff Crews; and many devoted cousins and extended family.
