Visitation will be held from 12:00pm until 1:00pm, Friday, February 10, 2023, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services will follow at 1:00pm in the funeral home chapel.
She was born December 12, 1933, in Kilmichael, Mississippi, a daughter of the late James Eddie Ray and Willie Peacock Ray. From an early age Mattie developed a strong work ethic which served her well throughout her lengthy career in the restaurant business. She served a store manager for McDonald’s on Highway 80 in Jackson, and Taco Bell and Arby’s in Pearl for many years.
Mattie’s family and her work were her sustaining joy throughout life. In her free time she and her late husband, Ray, enjoyed bowling. She was also an animal lover and cared for many dear pets over the years.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Strout; son, Jerry Peagler; and daughter-in-law, Judy Peagler.
Survivors include son, Terry A. Peagler; grandchildren,Lynette Westbrook, and Jonathan Peagler; great-granddaughter, Analise Westbrook; brothers, James E. “Tall Boy” Ray, and Bobby Ray; and her faithful canine companion, Dotsy.
