Peggy Bailey Hillard

Visitation will be 5:00-8:00pm, Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services are 1:00pm, Thursday, September 24, 2015, in the funeral home chapel with interment in Greenfield United Methodist Church Cemetery in Brandon.

Mrs. Hillard was born in Halls, Tennessee on Saturday, February 4, 1933, to John S. and Jennie Darty Bailey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin J. Hillard, on December 25, 2012, after 65 years of marriage.

She is survived by her son, Buddy Marvin Hillard (Patsy Self Hillard) of Brandon; daughter, Vicky Hillard Gill (Dr. John Gill) of Clinton; grandsons, Ernie Hillard (Melissa Poe Hillard) of Brandon, B.C. “Tray” Read, III (Elizabeth Rosenthal Read) of Austin, TX, Aubrey Gill of Valdosta, GA, Matthew Hillard (Doug Doster) of Brandon, Mitchell Gill of Clinton, and Bailey Gill with the U.S. Army in Southeast Asia; granddaughter, Lt. Col. Michelle Gill of Falls Church, VA; great-grandsons, Jacob, Nathan, and Caleb Read of Austin, TX; and great-granddaughter, Delia Hillard of Brandon.

As we mourn the great loss of Peggy Hillard, we are also reminded of the wonderful woman that she was. In the words of her grandson, “Nanny was not only a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was one of the most, if not the most, kind-hearted and caring people God ever blessed this earth with. My Nanny will be greatly missed by many, and especially by me.”

Mrs. Hillard attended Bethel Baptist Church in Brandon. Her favorite charities were St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis (www.stjude.org) and Boy’s Town (www.boystown.org).
