He was born December 22, 1945, in Jackson, a son of the late Andrew Jackson Halford and Lillie Laverne Switzer Halford. Roy proudly served our country with the U.S. Navy. A skilled carpenter and millwright, he had a lengthy career at Fountain Construction through the Carpenters Local 2285. Roy served for many years as a coach and referee for baseball and soccer. As a firm “by-the-rules” referee he was often referred to in jest as “Red Card Roy”. Roy was a fan of Pearl High School sports and enjoyed cheering on the Pirate football, track and cross-country teams. An avid golfer and hunter Roy spent much of his free time on the links or in the woods. Roy’s family was his pride and joy and his favorite times were spent with those he loved.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Katherine Halford; sons, Ronald “Ronnie” Halford and wife Holly, and Andrew “Jack” Halford and wife Ericca; daughter, Kim Eure and husband Brian; grandchildren, Ashleigh, Abigail, and Jemma Halford, and Avery and Lily Eure; great-grandchildren, Kinsleigh and Raeleigh Jenkins, and Waverly Gove; and brothers, Dan, Don and Cecil Halford.
