Ruby was a longtime member of Flowood Baptist Church. Ruby was known for her warm heart and gentle spirit. She truly exemplified kindness and compassion for others. Although she was quiet natured, relationships were important to Ruby, and she ensured that everyone who entered her home felt welcome. Ruby was a talented Southern cook and gifted seamstress.
Ruby’s family was at the heart of everything she did, and she was never happier than when she was spending time with them-especially her precious grands and great-grands! One of Ruby’s favorite past-times for many years was exchanging multiple phone calls daily with her four sisters. They worked diligently together to tend to all family affairs, both good and bad. Ruby also enjoyed spending time with friends playing Bunco and dominoes, and she never missed an opportunity to go shopping. Ruby had such a draw to all babies and children. Through the years she took great joy in helping with Bible school and nursery so she could love on children.
Not all the memories were necessarily fun, they did somehow turn out to be funny. Many of these memories revolve around her driving skills. No one really knows how many wrecks she had, but the ones we do know about are quite memorable; like the time she ran over an iron clad mailbox in Patrick Farms, and somehow managed to pull it out from under her car; or the time she ran her car into the flower bed at the entrance of her neighborhood. But probably the most memorable was the time she rear-ended a parked car in Castlewoods, about three houses down from where she lived. She hit the windshield with her head. But did she go to the emergency room? No. She went back home, cleaned her head, and then went shopping.
Ruby lived life to the fullest in her own quiet and unassuming way, caring for others contentedly and with pleasure. Ruby’s family will never forget all the memories made with her throughout the years. Although Ruby is no longer with us, we will cherish those memories for a lifetime.
Proverbs 31:28-29 says: “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.’”
Ruby is survived by her children, Anthony Burns and wife Jonie, Joan Crenshaw and husband Joe, and Phillip Burns and wife Dawn; grandchildren, Natalie Randall and husband Brad, Brandon Crenshaw and wife Ginny, Courtney Davis and husband Brentley, Drew Crenshaw, Makayla Burns, and Hope Burns; and great-grandchildren, Patton Randall, Mollie Dae Randall, Brooks Crenshaw, Peyton Davis, Cooper Crenshaw, and Leighton Davis.
The family would like to thank the Peachtree and Hospice Ministries staff, for the care and comfort provided to Ramblin’ Ruby in her final days. Also, thanks to the precious ladies who were there when Ruby went home to be with Jesus and receive her eternal healing.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Oliver Burns; and siblings, Gene Moore, Joe Moore, Pete Moore, Gertrude Moore, Betty “Sister” Cockroft, Dorothy Williams, Pat Bynam, and Addie Deloris Smith.
