Sharon Louise Brock Butcher, 46, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 while surrounded by loving family members. She will be missed beyond measure. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church, Flowood, Mississippi, and a funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 a.m. in her memory. Interment will follow in the Raymond cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
The youngest of their seven daughters, Sharon was born to Milford and Mary Beth Brock on July 13, 1970 and grew up in Raymond. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Raymond and St. Jude Catholic Church in Pearl. In recent years, Sharon was lovingly embraced and visited regularly by members of St. Paul Catholic Church in Flowood. St. Paul welcomed her with the love of Christ and became her beautiful, comforting church home.
Diagnosed at the age of 31, she was a long-time sufferer of primary progressive Multiple Sclerosis and battled through innumerable health challenges with immense fortitude and grace. Her disease progressed rapidly and stole from her basic abilities typically associated with independent living like standing, walking and personal grooming. But, what the disease never stole from her was her indomitable spirit or her abiding faith. She had a mischievous sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. She loved animals and had a special fondness for cats. Stroking and playing with her various pet cats through the years brought her much pleasure and peace. She also enjoyed watching and listening to musicals and collecting lighthouses, symbolic of the light and hope she was so good at exemplifying.
Sharon was child-like in many ways; she found and focused on the best in others and, adept at recognizing and counting her blessings in the face of significant trials, she had an immensely grateful heart. She was humble in spirit and respectful and supremely appreciative of the time that others spent with her. Those who knew Sharon were amazed and inspired by her love, faith, perseverance, hope and the grace with which she suffered.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Ron, of twenty-four years, and her precious, beloved daughter, Meagan Elizabeth. Meagan, a Navy Corpsman, was the light of her life; Sharon was extremely proud of her. One of her favorite pastimes during visits from family or friends was to share information about Meagan’s life and navy career. All who knew Sharon also knew how very much she loved Meagan.
Sharon is also survived by six older sisters and their families: Lorie Busby (Terry), Gayle Price (Bo), Melanie O’Keefe (Bill), Angela Phillips (Steve), Keri White (Chuck), and Joy Hale (Jody) including nieces, nephews, one great niece, and two great nephews.
Sharon touched many lives and changed them for the better, setting an example that innocently challenged all to strive to be positive, count blessings, and love God and others throughout life’s most difficult burdens. We will forever be profoundly thankful for and cherish the incredible blessing that she was. We will not mourn her death; we will celebrate her life.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the multitude of people who loved and cared for Sharon throughout the years. Should friends desire, they suggest that memorial contributions be made to a charity of personal choice.
