We are sad to announce the passing of Sue Stringer Busby of Brandon, MS. Sue died peacefully at the home of her daughter, Suzanne, on September 17, 2023. Sue led a full and vibrant life with her loving husband, Ray Busby, family, and many friends.
Sue was born on August 21, 1928, to Elsie Black Stringer and Mike Stringer in Taylorsville, MS. She was a graduate of Jones Junior College and served as an executive secretary for Mississippi Power and Light for over 32 years. After her retirement, she became an active member of the Women of Wall Street, the Art and Antique Club, the Botanical Garden Club, and the St. Dominic Auxiliary. She was a member of Fannin Baptist Church. She loved entertaining and was well-known for being a fabulous cook for her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and collecting antiques.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 57 years, Ray Busby; her siblings Earl Stringer, Joseph Stringer, Edward Stringer, and Katie Stringer.
She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Russell of Madison, MS; grandson, Michael Russell [Diana] of San Diego, CA; granddaughter, Suzannah Britt [Anthony] of Madison, MS; and great-grandchildren, Hannah Rae, Russ Taylor, and Telmo Britt.
The family is grateful to Dr. Katherine Gregg and the staff of Hospice Ministries and Covenant Caregivers for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the M. Ray Busby Memorial Scholarship Fund at Jones College in Ellisville or Hope Extended Foundation Casa de Fe, the orphanage in Ecuador, where her great-grandson, Telmo lived for 11 years prior to his adoption.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 19, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Baldwin Lee Funeral in Pearl. A graveside service will follow at Lakeland Place Memorial Park in Brandon at 3:30 p.m.
