Visitation will be 4:00-7:00pm, Monday, January 4, 2016, at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services are 10:00am, Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Oak Forest Baptist Church in Jackson. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park with Military Honors. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Wednesday, March 3, 1920 in Simpson County, Mississippi, a son of the late Daniel Isam McLendon and Lillian Abernathy McLendon.
W.D. was a veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Air Corps, having served in the European Theatre during WWII and was an instructor at Hinds Community College for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Paulette May.
Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Lavelle J. McLendon; granddaughter, Sherrelle Terrell; grandson, Chris Wall (Brenda); and great-grandson, Derek Terrell.
