She was born June 15, 1931, in Meridian, Mississippi, the eldest of three daughters born to the late John Wilmer Callahan and Laura Ellis Callahan. Wilma resided in Jackson for 45 years until moving to Pearl in 2002.
Wilma enjoyed life and people and sharing other people’s lives. She was an active member of Brandon Baptist Church where she loved her church family. Never one to sit idle, she belonged to a local ceramics artists group, enjoyed working in her yard, and delighted in an afternoon spent shopping. But perhaps Wilma’s favorite times were spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart.
In addition to her parents Wilma was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Herbert “H.S.” Vickers; son, Johnny Vickers; and sister, Tinie Slade.
She is survived by her son, Gary Vickers; daughter, Myra Robinson and husband Curtis; sister, Pauline Wedgeworth and husband Rev. Bobby Wedgeworth; grandchildren, Brian and Brett Vickers, and Chris and Clint Robinson; and five great-grandchildren.
In light of Wilma’s love for our Lord and desire to share His word her family respectfully requests that memorials be made to Brandon Baptist Church.
