Cecilia M. Velasquez

Cecilia was born in Waelder, Texas on August 7, 1938 to Pedro and Alejo Mayorga. She moved to Houston when she was 16 years old. Her first job was at the BAMA Food Company, famous for their jams, preserves and peanut butter. She retired in 1998 from Teledyne Waterpik after 30 years.

In 1960 she met the man of her dreams, Louis Velasquez and together they embarked on 60 years of love and adventures. Their adventures took them across the United States and to the Holy Land. Their love created a family with two children, six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great granddaughter greeting her in heaven.

She loved music and was a beautiful and graceful dancer. She enjoyed decorating her home and cooking for all the holidays. But most of all she was a devout Catholic, wife, mother and grandmother.

Cecilia was preceded by her parents Pedro & Alejo Mayorga, Lucio & Carmen Lozano and stepmother Bernarda Mayorga; brothers Andres Mayorga, Modesto Mayorga and Ismael Lozano; sisters Damiana Villaloboz, Lupe Villanueva, Marciana Ibarra and Julia Cantu; and granddaughter Serena Angelina Font.

Cecilia is survived by her husband Louis Velasquez Jr.; children Norma (Rudy) Gonzales and Gabriel Velasquez; sisters Lupe Mayorga and Mary Reed; brothers Daniel Mayorga, Marcos Mayorga, Dino Mayorga and Edward Mayorga. Her legacy continues in her grandchildren Anthony Font, Olivia Font, Cecilia Font, Gabriella Font, Amanda Cruz and Jonah Rangel; and her great grandchildren Samuel Font, Matthew Font, Elijah Font, Lana Font, Liam Font-Rodriguez, Levi Font-Campbell, Aiana Flowers, Adelyn Green and Clyde Green.

Funeral service to celebrate the life of Cecilia M. Velasquez will be held 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, 11720 Joan of Arc Dr, Houston, TX 77024. The committal service will follow 3:00 PM on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. The family will receive friends for Cecilia on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Forest Park South Funeral Home. A rosary and vigil service will be held 6:00 PM on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 at Forest Park South Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Forest Park South Funeral Home.
