

William Eugene Chisum, "Buck", passed away at his home in Pearland, Texas on February 20, 2024, at the age of 80, after a courageous fight with Parkinson's Disease. He was born on Nov. 12, 1943, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois to Tolbert Claremore Chisum and Willie Edith (Owens) Chisum. He was raised in Sour Lake, Texas where he played the Baritone prior to beginning his participation in high school football. Number 81 was his jersey number, and he wore it proudly. After graduating from Sour Lake High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country during the Cuban Crisis and in the Vietnam War. He served his country from 1961 to 1966 as a Decorated Marine, Including being awarded the Bronze Star. Eugene leaves behind a wife of 34 years, his high school sweetheart, Ella Mae Weaver Mitchell. After returning to civilian life, he became a welder and joined Local 798 in Tulsa. He worked on the Alaskan Pipeline creating the procedure weld used to test welders who wanted to work on the pipeline. His younger brother, Bob, also worked with him. His First child, Pamela, was born in North Carolina while he was serving in the Vietnam War. Eugene's second child, Rebecca, was born while he was living in New Jersey. Eugene loved all sports, but the Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys were at the top of his list, of sports he followed. He had a great passion for Thoroughbred Horse Racing. He owned, raced, and won many trophies during the years he was in the business. He shared The Winner's Circle with many friends and family. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, Evelyn Beeson, Tolbert Chisum, Russell Chisum, Robert Chisum, Edythe Barclay, Eola Palmer, Mozelle Briggs, Ozella Francis, and Barbara Welch. Those Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ella Mae, his daughter, Pamela and husband Jeff Davis, his daughter, Rebecca and husband Troy Sorensen, his stepson Ryan Mitchell, along with his grandchildren, Riley Davis, Jordan Davis, Ava Sorensen, Alexis Sorensen, and Casey Mitchell. To honor his memory, donations can be made to the VFW, Veterans of Foreign Wars, of which he was a Lifetime Member. A celebration of life and memorial for William will be held Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Forest Park South Funeral Home, 12650 Shadow Creek Parkway, Pearland, TX 77584.
