

Born July 9, 1924 in Spring Lake Township, Tazewell County to Martin L. and Edna E. (Emmons) Long, he married Betty L. Perkins on June 9, 1946 in Pekin. He later married Alice L. Giacomo on August 23, 1980 in Pekin. She died May 14, 2001 in Pekin. He also was preceded in death by two daughters, Sue Carol Gschwend and Donna Sue Cline; one son, David A. Long; one sister and five brothers.
Surviving are one daughter, Denice (Ed) Ray of Havana; six grandchildren, Jonathan Kolves of Peoria, Yvonne Long, Haleigh Ray, Deanne Long, all of Havana, Mary McClammer of South Beloit and Donna Cline of Heyworth; eight great-grandchildren and three brothers, William Long, John (Jewell) Long, both of Pekin and Jim (Mary) Long of Tampa, Florida.
He was a World War II Navy veteran.
He worked out of Laborers Local 231 in Pekin for fifty years, until retiring in 1986. He primarily worked construction with Storrer and Wiegand in East Peoria.
He was a member of Pekin Eagles Aerie 1869; George M. Maple Memorial AMVETS Post 235 in Pekin and the Tobin-Nanninga Marine Corps League Detachment 85 in Pekin.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team and the United States Navy.
