

Born April 23, 1934 in Kyoto, Japan to Saysuke and Mie Hayashi, she married Herbert J. Henderson on June 13, 1957 in Kyoto. He died August 21, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, and two brothers.
Surviving are three daughters, Judy (Merle) Northrup of Pekin, Wendy (Eric) Kiefer of Big Pine Key, Florida, and Tracy (Rob) Hedrick of Stover, Missouri; one son, Shawn Henderson of Tremont; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
She had worked as a seamstress at Straumann’s in downtown Pekin, as well owning and operating That Certain Look and The Beauty Patio, retiring in 2014.
Akiko loved to be in her yard. She loved to garden and had a green thumb. When she had the time, she enjoyed sewing.
She was of the Catholic Faith.
Her visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday June 30, 2025 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes in Pekin. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation A private inurnment will take place in Woodrow Cemetery in rural Pekin.
Memorials can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
