

Born December 1, 1933 to George F. and Ethel C. (Pigg) Mayer, she married William Stewart on August 14, 1954. He survives.
Surviving are three daughters; Kathy (Dean “Corky”) Nash of Peoria, Bev (Scott) Somerville and Betty (Dave Hosbrough) Stewart of Creve Coeur; one son, Dan Stewart of Creve Coeur; one brother, William Mayer of Tuscola; two sisters, Ruth Goad of Garrett, and Roseann Crowder of Tuscola; two grandchildren, Ross (Caitlin Gross), Somerville and Renee' (Jeff) Lee of East Peoria; and one great-grandson, Griffin Lee of East Peoria.
Kate was preceded in death by one brother.
Kate was a loving dedicated wife and mother, the matriarch of her family.
She was a librarian for Creve Coeur Public Library for years, last working on the Saturday before her passing. Kate volunteered at the Creve Coeur schools for many years.
Kate was a member of First Christian Church DOC Creve Coeur where she was the president of Christian Women’s Fellowship for years. She was very active in the church helping with spaghetti suppers, and service project committee head for Mission Committee. She was also a member of the Arthur Mariorraetta Rebekah Lodge #347.
Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church DOC, 604 Groveland Street, Creve Coeur. With a Celebration of Life to follow from noon to 3 p.m. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is assisting the family with arrangements.
