Thinking about my Aunt Carol today, today is her funeral:  reading in 2 Timothy 4:7-8:
I have fought the good fight, i have finished the race, i have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day. 
I am sure she is having a wonderful reunion with her brother and her parents, and loving being in the presence of our savior! One day we shall be reunited again!

When we moved to Mt. Pleasant, IA we would visit Carol and Bill at the Manito house and celebrate 4th of Julys, and other holidays there. Carol would take our family to the Pekin water park pool as well, which my kids really loved. We learned at that time Carol & Bill took up Square Dancing and also traveled a bit when Carol worked at the Travel Agency. Bill even showed us a video tape of him scuba diving with the sharks in the Caribbean.

When we moved to Cedar Rapids, IA, Carol and Bill, and I think Alex or Bailey (or both) came to visit us after attending the Tulip Festival in Pella, IA. We all then visited the Amana Colonies near Cedar Rapids. 

After we moved to Huntsville, AL we would stop in on occasion to their Pekin home. Particularly memorable was Carol and Bill’s 50th  wedding anniversary in 2015. Despite the full glass punch bowl that accidentally dropped on the floor, it was truly unforgettable seeing friends and family. 

More recently at the wedding of Bailey and Paige Carlile, I particularly enjoyed dancing with Carol at the wedding reception. She could really cut a rug and wore me out!

What I admire most about Carol was her enduring faith in Jesus Christ. She knew the Lord as her Savior, never wavered in her faith, and that because of the Word, she knew that Jesus is the only path to heaven. Carol, we are so sad because of our earthly loss of you. But we know this painful loss is just temporary. Someday we will all meet again on that Great Day in Heaven, in the presence of our Lord with all of our loved ones who have gone on before us.

Even though I’m probably not the closest cousin to Carol, I encourage everyone to write as detailed stories as possible about Carol, so that her legacy will not be forgotten. 


The Schlabach Family Reunion in Pekin, IL,  2006

I am Joel Mades, first cousin to Carol Williamson. My mother Anne (Schlabach) Mades and Roy Schlabach were Sister and Brother. I was the youngest of the first cousin generation, as was Carol, Eldon, & Jerry.

My earliest memory of Carol is when I must have 7 or 8 years old and Carol was either 16 or 17. My family was over visiting Roy and Dorothy’s in La Crosse and Carol had just got a brand new typewriter. She was so excited and happy to get that typewriter because she could write her high school reports on that machine and not have to go over to a friend’s house and borrow theirs.   

The year I graduated high school Carol and Bill came to Bloomer, WI where Eldon had just graduated from Technical College. As a boy from Minnesota where firecrackers were banned, I was thrilled when Carol and Bill gave us kids a pack of firecrackers, which were eagerly dispatched. Additionally, Bill had just installed an Aircraft Landing Light on the front of their ’67 Impala. When we took a ride at night, coming over a ridge, it lit up the countryside for miles. However, it had to be used sparingly as it severely drained the battery.

Through the years, when we lived in Bloomington, MN,  Carol and Bill visited the Mall of America and my sister Suzie and I met them for breakfast to catch up on our lives. Then when Carol’s mom, Dorothy turned 90, Carol put on a big 90th Birthday Celebration for Dorothy at her home in La Crosse. 

Carol and Bill were always faithful in attending the many Schlabach family reunions at Goose Island in La Crosse, or wherever they may be. Badminton and Volleyball were always favorite activities.

Anytime I saw carol it was always at church,and I almost always called her by the wrong name,but always carol would just laugh and give me a hard time about miss pronouncing her name,very few times I would call her by her right name of carol andshe would still laugh and say with a lot of laughter that I really got her name right,she was always a very nice and loving person and she will be missed at church especially by mysellf,but I have total confidence she is with her lord.

Saddened by the passing of aunt Carol.  A big part of my childhood was filled with her love and care .I never knew her to have a mean thought or action .Even when I was a kid a she chased me around the kitchen table  because I was being a butt head . These memories will always be with me along with my dad and her parents  (my grandparents.

Carol was a devoted and loyal part of the First United Methodist family.  She was so kind and supportive.

You all have our deepest and sincerest condolences in this time.  Carol is with her Lord and Saviour.  Amen
