

Born on August 29, 1940 in Peoria the daughter of Aldene Block and Mervin Bauer. She married Gherel Platis in 1960 in East Peoria. She later married Charles “Chuck” Clark on December 30, 1992 in Sarasota, Florida.
She is survived by three daughters, Crystal (Al) Probyn of Peoria, Kim Mitchell of Pekin, Katrina (Dave) Lakin of Pekin; her beloved cat, Tuffy; one stepson Steve (Sarah) Clark of Cary, North Carolina and one brother, Richard Bauer.
Carolyn was preceded by her parents, her stepfather Bernie Brooks, both husbands and one son-in-law Leonard Mitchell.
She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Morton since moving back to Illinois in 2016. Carol was a member of a Sarasota computer club. She volunteered her computer skills to help Mimi’s Cat Rescue in Florida as well as fostering. Carol was an accomplished accordion player and in later years also enjoyed playing the piano. She had several hobbies including pottery, beading and especially quilting. She created beautiful, personalized quilts for those she loved. Most of all, she loved to spend time walking the beautiful Florida beaches.
Carolyn began working as a nurse in 1975 eventually getting her M.S. from the University of Illinois in 1985. She taught at Graham Hospital in Canton for many years before the travel bug grabbed her and she started working short contracts at hospitals around the country. She settled in Sarasota after meeting and marrying Chuck Clark.
Her memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Greg Moyer will officiate the service. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will be in Florida on a later date.
