

Born November 24, 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Edward Albert and Sarah Beatrice (Holliday) Nimmo, he married Barbara Alice Emerson on July 26, 1947 in Cincinnati. She survives.
Also surviving are five sons, John A. Nimmo of rural Manito, William A. "Bill" Nimmo of Chillicothe, Thomas A. Nimmo, Douglas A. Nimmo and Bruce A. Nimmo, all of Pekin; ten grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one brother, Edward H. Nimmo of Concord, North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sara.
He was the world's greatest husband and father.
Al was a member of First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin, where he had served as a church elder.
He had served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, and was a survivor of the invasion of Iwo Jima.
He worked for Standard Brands as an operating engineer for 24 years, retiring in 1973. He later worked as a water treatment operator for Caterpillar, Inc. in the Mossville Tech Center for 14 years, retiring in 1988.
Al was a member of the Empire Masonic Lodge 126 AF & AM in Pekin.
His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday,November15, 2011at First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin. Rev. Kristie M. Peterson and David Taylor will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, where military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is in charge of arrangements.
