Cheryl Bickel

Born on February 12, 1948 in Galesburg, she was the daughter of Verne and Opal (Bright) Larimer. Cheryl married Richard Lee Bickel on November 4, 1977 in Knoxville. He preceded her in death on April 3, 2023.

Cheryl was also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Shirlene Hilgenberg and a nephew, Jeff Hilgenberg.

Cheryl is survived by three daughters, Kimberly (Vince McGee) Barry of Rock Island, Nichole (Robert) Smith of Grafton, Wisconsin, and Michelle (Deonte Franklin) Smith of Knoxville; six grandchildren, Tori Smith, Courtney Smith, Taylor (Cole) Owens, Payton Smith, A.J. (Nataly Bahns) Barry and Sydney (Keegan Raska) Smith. She was also blessed with one great granddaughter, Wrenlee Smith; four nephews; one niece and several great nephews and great nieces.

Throughout her life, Cheryl held several jobs, including positions at Gale Products, First National Bank, and The Kensington. She also dedicated many years to being a stay at home mother before retiring from OSF Medical Center.

Cheryl‘s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved playing bingo, relaxing on the deck while watching the wildlife in her backyard, and spending time with her beloved dog Izzy. Cheryl was also known as an exceptional cook, whose meals brought family and friends together.

She will be remembered for her, loving heart, her devotion to her family, and the countless memories she created with those she loved. Cheryl will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew her.

A gathering celebrating Cheryl's life will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Big Catz BBQ, 221 East Main Street in Knoxville in the side room.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
