Born March 31, 1953 in Joliet to Charles Edward, Sr. and Alice Mae (Knowles) Brower, he married Brenda Sue Cotton on August 15, 1998 in Eureka. She survives.
Also surviving are his six children, Courtland Brower, Jr. of California, Shawn Cotton of Peoria, Theresa Butts of North Pekin, Jamie (Eddie “Lee”) Bolen of Pekin, Angela Davis of Pekin, and James “J.R.” Butts, Jr. of Pekin; 14 grandchildren, Christopher Butts, Angelina Banks, Cory Banks, Kara Bolen, Jacob (Hayley) Bland, Tari Oetjen, Jonathon Swanson, Addison Butts, Natalie Adamson, Jennifer Cotton, Parker Brower, Presley Brower, Faith Brower, and Lorelai Brower; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Margie Brower of Alabama and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Brower, Jr. and one grandson, Zach Putney.
Courtland proudly served his country in the United States Army.
He was a truck driver for 41 years. Courtland loved being on the road and worked for companies including Pepsi and Coca-Cola.
He was known for his endearing stubbornness, which motivated him to continue making holiday meals well into his later years, staying up late the night before to make sure all the food was prepared properly. He was typically seen with a Coke in hand and loved cooking and feeding his family large, memorable breakfasts. Courtland enjoyed activities such as bowling, fishing (though he refused to touch any fish he caught), and playing Diablo on his computer. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Miami Dolphins.
His visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Friday, April 26, 2024 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, with a service immediately following. Chaplin Lauren Padgett will officiate. Interment will occur at Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.
